About me
Hi I’m Anam
My journey into design began during the pandemic, when sketching became my way of expressing creativity and emotions. What started as a small joy soon turned into a calling, inspiring me to transition from finance to design after four years in my family business.
I taught myself design through online platforms like Skillshare and have since gained 3+ years of experience working full-time with diverse organizations. These experiences strengthened my fundamentals and shaped me into a designer who blends creativity, strategy, and empathy to solve meaningful problems.
I’m currently pursuing my Master’s in Design, which is helping me deepen my understanding of design strategy, systems thinking, and innovation. I see this as part of my continuous journey to learn, grow, and refine my craft.
My background in finance gives me a strong foundation in business thinking and problem-solving, allowing me to approach design with both creative and analytical perspectives.

Design Process
My design process has evolved over time through various experiences, where I’ve realized that the power of storytelling can truly push ideas forward, and that a prototype is worth a thousand words. I strive to strike a balance between the two to create compelling experiences.
I always begin by understanding the context of the problem and ask critical questions like Who am I designing for? Why does this problem exist? What impact does it have? These questions help me uncover insights and define the right direction for the project.

Prototype & Test
I believe a prototype speaks louder than words. It invites collaboration, sparks discussion, and makes ideas tangible. I start simple, test early, and involve stakeholders throughout the process to build alignment and uncover better solutions together.
Iterate & Deliver
Design is never a straight path. I iterate continuously based on feedback. Each iteration brings clarity and helps refine both the form and function of the product before handing it off to engineers.
Evaluate
I value feedback at every stage, not just to refine the design, but to ensure does the design truly solve the problem? I always trace my solutions back to the original goals, making sure they meet both user needs and business objectives.

What I like doing outside of work
Sketching
Sketching is therapeutic for me. Over time, I’ve discovered a deep joy in drawing florals, it calms my mind and helps me reset creatively. I see every artist as a mentor, learning from their work and translating that inspiration into my own unique style. Sketching reminds me to slow down, observe closely, and find beauty in the process, qualities that deeply influence how I design.

Digital illustrations
I picked up creating digital illustrations in 2021 from awesome artists like Rebecca Mills, Floortje, Vinitha Mammen, and more. Their special ways of doing things not only made me super excited about being creative but also gave me endless ideas.

Singing
Singing is one of my greatest passions, and I’ve had the joy of performing at various university and community concerts. A highlight was the Berkeley I-House farewell concert, where I shared the stage with talented artists from across the globe.

Volunteering
I have volunteered at Aga Khan Development Network (AKDN) as a professional designer & in various capacities over the years. Working with my community keeps me grounded, humble, and connected to a deeper sense of purpose.
